Cockatiels are popular pet birds known for their distinctive red cheeks. The scientific name for a cockatiel is Nymphicus hollandicus, and they are native to Australia. One of the most striking features of cockatiels is their bright red (or sometimes orange) cheek patches. These patches are located on either side of the face, below the eyes.
The exact reason why cockatiels have red cheeks is not fully understood, but there are a few theories. One theory is that the red cheeks are used to attract mates. In the wild, cockatiels live in flocks, and the males use their red cheeks to stand out from the females. The red cheeks may also help the males to attract mates by making them appear more healthy and vigorous.
