Jeepers Crow is a minced oath used to express surprise or annoyance, it is also used to convey exasperation,
disapointment, or mild disgust. It is synonymous with terms such as “gee whiz” and “oh, fiddle sticks”. Jeepers crow has been in use since the 1920s, and was used in popular culture in the mid twentieth century, like in the popular Popeye cartoon shorts featuring the catchphrase “jeepers creepers.” Its origins lie in an minced oath version of “Jesus Christ” using the euphemism “jeepers” and combining it with “crow,” a minced oath version of the word “Christ.”
Jeepers crow is a relatively mild oath, and is considered more polite in comparison with using the unadulterated minced oath “Jesus Christ.” While it is uncommon to hear this term being used today, it is still recognized and understood among native English speakers.
